Cycle the Loire Valley

Sign up now to participate in this trip through the beautiful and historic Loire River Valley in central France. The trip begins in Tours and ends a week later in Angers with stops at Azay le Rideau, Chinon and Saumur. This is a hotel to hotel tour with a two night stay in both Tours and Chinon. A van will carry your luggage and, as usual on European bike trips, we will have cycle guides and 6 days of planned rides.

The Loire Valley winds through the "Garden of France" with vineyards, orchards and charming villages along the way. Highlights include the many chateau (i.e. castles) at Villandry, Langeais and the medieval town of Chinon. We'll ride on bike paths close to the river as well as small roads with little traffic.

 

SCHEDULE

 

15 September:  Fly to Europe

16 September:  Day 1    Arrive in Tours

                         Day 2     Cycle out and back from Tours

                         Day 3     Tours to Azay le Rideau - 36 Km

                         Day 4     Azay le Rideau to Chinon - 39 Km

                         Day 5     Cycle out and back from  Chinon

                         Day 6     Chinon to Saumur - 43 Km

                         Day 7     Saumur to Angers - 62 Km

 

23 September:   Departure to Paris, option to return to Dulles Airport

                          Optional  2 days in Paris is being planned….Sept 23^rd and 24th

25 September:   Return to Dulles Airport

 

COST

 

Included in the price, assuming 30 or more participants.

     7 nights lodging

     Tourist tax in hotels

     All breakfasts

     4 dinners

     2 cycle tour leaders

    1 bus for luggage and 2 additional passenger spaces

     Rental bicycle

     Air travel

  

NOTES;

 

-  There are a fixed number of hotel rooms currently booked.  Perhaps we can add more, but this is not guaranteed.  Single supplement is $300.

-  Air travel will booked through Paris with transfers to Tours and from Angers.

-  Optional extra days in Paris will be offered after the bike tour, cost to be determined.

-  The payment schedule below includes airfare cost, best guess!

-  Final payment may need to be adjusted for currency issues, air surcharges, etc.
