ERIE CANAL BIKE TRIP

August  8 – 14  2009

Join us in August 2009 for an exciting week of biking along the historic and lovely Erie Canal plus a bonus day in Canada!  This is a family friendly trip and children ages 12 and above should find it an exciting family adventure.

Our first day of riding will be along the U.S. Niagara Gorge and then across the border into Canada (PASSPORT REQUIRED).  We will ride to Niagara on the Lake along quiet and safe bike paths and then transfer by van to Lockport, NY where we will begin our Erie Canal bike path ride the next day.

Four days will be spent riding along the Erie Canal with opportunities to visit villages, a Mormon Church at Joseph Smith Farm, and the Genesee County Museum, a 19th Century living History Museum with 59 restored buildings.

The level of riding along the canal is easy and flat.  The average mileage per day is 35 to 40.  For the hearty there will be opportunities to do more. For the rest of us there is a van that can meet and pick us up at various points along the route so we can save our energy for socializing at the end of the day.

This trip has been specially designed by Classic Adventures for SSS.  They have included the extra day in Canada at our request.

Please contact one of our leaders to discuss your child or grandchild’s biking ability.  They should be able to bike at least 20 to 25 miles AND sit through a nice dinner with appropriate behavior.
